Dr. Asra Ali is a practicing dentist in the greater Chicago area and serves as clinical faculty and assistant professor at Midwestern University’s College of Dental Medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, a master’s in Biology from Purdue University, her dental degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry, and completed her residency at Northwestern University Hospital.
From a young age, Dr. Ali has been dedicated to community service, holding leadership roles in MYNA and MSA during her student years. She served on the board of the Mecca Center in Willowbrook, IL, for nearly a decade and was actively involved in the completion of its mosque. There, she prioritized inclusivity, interfaith engagement, and public relations to help make the mosque a welcoming space.
Nationally, Dr. Ali served on the ISNA Board, including as Secretary from 2018–2020, and chaired the ISNA Convention from 2015–2017. Her work focused on masjid development and programming for second- and third-generation American Muslims. She also served on the board of GirlForward, supporting refugee and low-income girls, and remains on its advisory committee.
Her humanitarian efforts include healthcare missions with IMANA and MedGlobal, as well as a Syrian refugee aid trip with IAC. She contributed to the National Muslim COVID Taskforce and its Health Professions Committee.
Appointed to AMHP’s Board in 2023 as Executive Secretary, Dr. Ali brings her professional and civic expertise to advance health equity. She is a recipient of the 2016 MWA Inspiring Women’s Award and a fellow of the El Hibri Foundation’s leadership programs.
