Syed Hyder Hussain is a healthcare leader, researcher, and advocate committed to improving healthcare access for underserved communities. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Healthcare Management and Health Policy at UTHealth Houston, where his research focuses on increasing access to care, enhancing quality of care, addressing health disparities, and improving mental health service accessibility. He also holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Healthcare Management from the same institution.
As the Muslim Free Clinics Council (MFCC) Coordinator at AMHP, Syed has led initiatives to support over 110 Muslim-run free clinics nationwide, fostering collaboration, highlighting best practices, and improving patient care delivery. His work advances health equity and sustainable healthcare solutions.
Beyond AMHP, Syed has served as a Graduate Research Assistant at UTHealth Houston, managing multi-stakeholder healthcare projects and conducting data-driven research. As a Teaching Associate, he was recognized with the James Emerson Award for Outstanding Teaching Assistant for his expertise in healthcare management and commitment to student success.
He has held multiple leadership roles at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, including President of The Board, Associate Director of the Student Association, and a UTHealth LEADS Fellow, focusing on student engagement, mentorship, and professional development. Additionally, he serves on the Community Service & Philanthropy Committee for the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE)- Southeast Texas Chapter and is a This Is Public Health (TIPH) Ambassador.
A dedicated advocate for health policy, public health education, and community empowerment, Syed is committed to leveraging his expertise to support AMHP’s mission of improving healthcare access, education, and advocacy within the Muslim community and beyond.
