AMHP Mental Health First Aid Training Event Request Form
AMHP Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training Event Request Form
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a public education program which introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health issues like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance abuse, and addictions, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common treatments. MHFA is an 8-hour certification course which uses workshop-style simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis; select interventions and provide initial help; and connect afflicted individuals to professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
PLEASE NOTE: The training events are not limited to the Muslim community. All communities, irrespective of religious affiliation, are invited to complete the form below.
OVERVIEW OF MHFA: This one day 8-hour certification course teaches non-mental health professionals how to give first aid to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and/or who are in the early stages of a mental health disorder. AMHP intends to extend this training to school teachers, community leaders, firefighters, parents, etc so that they can be equipped with the resources and tools to navigate crisis situations and learn how to appropriately respond to mental health issues. The ultimate objective is to identify and triage individuals who might be suffering from mental health issues in our homes, schools, and communities.
AUDIENCE: The training is appropriate for a wide variety of audiences, including but not limited to: members of faith communities and their leaders, youth directors, community health workers, employers and business leaders, law enforcement personnel, educators, medical providers (e.g., nurses, medical assistants), etc
VENUE REQUIREMENTS: Venue must be fully A/V compatible, must comfortably seat all attendees, and must grant desk space for attendees to use their textbooks and materials.
SCHEDULE: The entire training session will last 8 hours with breaks between sections. Lunch will be provided to all attendees.
FEES: There will be a nominal registration fee for each participant to help offset costs associated with the event including instructor fees, meals, print materials and other expenses. No one will be denied attendance for lack of funds.
INSTRUCTORS: All instructors are certified in MHFA and have experience providing these types of training events in their communities.
CERTIFICATION: Upon completion of the training, all attendees will receive a MHFA certificate which are valid for a period of 3 years and can be renewed online.
*Completion of this form does not guarantee a training event. AMHP will assess needs and commit to conducting training events based on internal capacity and availability.
