UMR and AMHP Present: Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification Training

UMR & AMHP Present:

Adult Mental Health First Aid Certification Training

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based 8-hour certification program, which introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health issues like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance abuse, and addictions, and builds understanding of their impact. Similar to how CPR training helps a layperson assist an individual following a heart attack, MHFA teaches non-mental health professionals how to give first aid to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis and/or who are in the early stages of a mental health disorder.

The ultimate objective is to identify and triage individuals who might be suffering from mental health issues in our homes, schools, and communities. Luminaries such as Michelle Obama have taken the training and have testified to its empowerment of individuals to help others deal with mental health issues.

AUDIENCE: The one-day training is appropriate for a wide variety of audiences, including but not limited to: members of faith communities and their leaders, youth directors, clergy, community health workers, employers and business leaders, law enforcement personnel, educators, parents, medical providers (e.g., nurses, medical assistants) etc.

TRAINER: Lena Ismail is a certified Adult MHFA Instructor. She served as a trainer as part of her role as an Assistant Director of Health and Wellness at the University of Chicago where she led nine trainings with students and staff.
